Dear Parents and Students,
Since 1992, hundreds of students of all ages have taken music classes at our convenient Skokie location. We’ve been providing quality music education for Niles, Morton Grove, Lincolnwood, Park Ridge, Des Plaines and Northern Chicagoland as well.
We encourage our students to learn many styles of music - whether it be baroque, classical, romantic and modern or blues, jazz and pop. In addition, we provide students with musicianship skills and an appreciation for music that will last them a lifetime. But we do not believe we are the best because we offer such a balanced program of music instruction. The reason we have the reputation we do is because families think we are the best. We are different from other music studios! Our founder, Rick Cinquemani, has based our philosophy on how his mentors helped him overcome himself. At Five Hands Studio, we assume that most children will find the prospect of taking music lessons to be a fun idea. But we also realize that, after the initial excitement, they soon discover that music lessons are just like homework!
What is unique about our studio is that we expect this to happen as part of a natural process. After all, any child knows that it’s much easier to get entertained by turning on the TV than it is to “work” on something. We use music lessons to illustrate the value and joy of working toward a goal.
As parents, we realize that the happiest people are those who really enjoy their work - people who have managed to successfully combine their life’s work with doing something that they love to do. We also know that, on the road to getting what we want, we must be willing to do things that we don’t “feel like” doing. At our studio, students learn that “work” can be a fun game. We use music lessons to teach children that they can get what they really want with a joyful approach. The trick is to learn how to follow what they know is best for themselves. (After all, “discipline” is derived from the word “disciple” - which means “follower”.)
We know that students will reap great benefits once they understand why self-discipline is the way to have fun reaching their goals.
As we all know, children tend to enjoy immediate gratification over delayed rewards. At Five Hands Studio, we help students understand that it’s in their own best interest to set and work toward goals. Children need to learn that the “easy way out” is often the efficient use of self-discipline. We are happiest when we do what we know is best - even though we don’t always feel like it. At our studio, we reinforce this through our efforts to educate parents about how we teach music - how to reinforce good practice habits at home. We want the parents, teachers and students to be “on the same page” about what efficient practice habits really are. Only after these habits are established can we encourage the students to make real connections of self-expression through their music.
Even if a parent has no musical background, we can help them guide their children to ensure that they gain the advantage of personal efficiency and self-discipline. The result is children who will enjoy playing music for the rest of their lives,

We realize that you have a choice between several different music schools. All studios are not the same. We constantly renovate and improve our facilities and provide ongoing training to our staff to ensure we are always providing our students and parents with the best experience possible. We take care to educate the parents of young students so they may be better equipped to guide them. Studying music is a substantial investment of time, care and money. We need to be able to insure success and confidence in our students. They need to be able to use this new language and have fun with it.
To insure students’ measured progress we hold “How to Practice” seminars for parents of students (included with lessons). To see a video excerpt from this seminar click here. We also implement a well-rounded curriculum of music skills to supplement and balance the music education that is given.
Today, as in 1992, we excel in helping students express themselves through music. We invite you to compare all of the features and options to see why our studio has advantages over any other music school. To view a studio comparison checklist click here.
At Five Hands Studio your child will develop what research has shown for many years - that those who have studied a musical instrument as a child have a lifelong advantage. They acquire higher levels of self-discipline and confidence, as well as higher levels of cognitive and motor skills.
Adult students are welcome at our studio too. Our instructors are experienced with beginners as well as advanced players in virtually any style of music.
Our schedule is designed to suit your needs. There is still room for lessons in our programs. We are still accepting registration for classes. There are available lesson times throughout the week - Monday through Saturday. We can also teach two family members at the same time in order to save you time!
We hope you will consider us as a fun and educational activity for you or your children this school year. Thank you for your interest in our programs.
Sincerely,
Rick Cinquemani

Regarding our free “How Your Children Should Practice” Seminar for parents:
“I believe you’ve been telling my daughter “how to practice” for quite some time. As you know, it is very hard to get any information out of a child after lessons. It was a very informative and useful opportunity to sit down with you and get a complete overview of how to practice. Parents should be very strongly encouraged to attend. I ONLY WISH YOU WOULD HAVE HAD THIS SEMINAR MUCH SOONER!”
