Private Music Lessons

Private lessons are offered on piano, voice, guitar and violin. We have found that private one-on-one instruction allows students to progress at their own pace and gain the best understanding of musical skills. Students can start private lessons as young as 5 years old. They can also begin at any time of the year so there's no need to wait to get started. A variety of styles are taught such as pop, jazz, rock and - of course, classical. Contact us to see which times and days are available.

Master Classes (optional) are included

In addition to the private lessons there are weekly master classes in which students get the chance to perform for one another and learn from each others’ challenges and successes.  They are also taught supplementary theory, sightreading and technical skills.  Students may learn to entrain themselves to other musicians - something they would not be able to learn alone.

Exam Preparation

If students wish they may take optional exams offered by the North Shore Music Teachers Association (NSMTA). This is the local branch of the National Music Teachers Association. The NSMTA offers Achievement in Music (AiM) which allows students to test for graded levels in piano.  The AiM Program is an optional but highly recommended way to measure and insure a student’s progress.  Five Hands Studio is also headquarters of the local chapter of the National Piano Guild.  We host yearly Guild auditions, which are also another performance opportunity for students.

Vocal Ensembles

Beginning Chorus, Young Women’s Vocal Ensemble and Musical Theatre Ensemble are offered to students of various ages and musical experience.  A variety of repertoire is featured and performed.  Students learn healthy vocal production and to blend well with others to contribute to a good choral sound.  There are also opportunities for solos.

Recitals

Students are given an opportunity to perform in a number of recitals held over the course of the year. All of our music recitals have free admission, so the whole family and their friends can attend to enjoy the performances. Our students bring food bank donations to recitals making the events both enjoyable and meaningful.

However, many of our students come for piano lessons from the surrounding communities of Niles, IL and Lincolnwood, Morton Grove, Park Ridge, Evanston, Des Plaines, Wilmette and North Chicago.
